CCHC European Masters Success

Over the past couple of weeks a number of Cambridge City players past and present have been in action at the European Masters Finals across both Nottingham and Valencia. This coming week Sally Tippen is also in action, taking part in a Spirit of Masters event for the England O70s as not enough teams could be raised for a full O70 category. For those unaware the Masters tournaments are an FIH approved event featuring many Olympic and World Cup athletes who have had full senior international honours. Below is a summary of the results for the CCHC contingent.

Gareth Andrew, England O40, gold medal. An impressive group stage saw England finish with a +45 goal difference from five games. Gareth was on fine form, scoring 15 goals, 13 of which were field goals and one of which was arguably the goal of the tournament with a one handed wedge lob of the French goalkeeper.

Heidi Baber, England O35, silver medal. Heidi was part of a very strong England team who dominated the group stage, winning every game comfortably. Heidi contributed two goals as well as having a hand in many for her teammates. The team drew the final against Ireland and lost out in a shoot-out but can be very proud of the performances they turned in as they now look to the World Cup.

Clive Biddlecombe and Stephen Graves were part of the England LX team who won gold in Valencia. Both were in the starting line up as they beat the Netherlands Spirit of Masters team.

Chanre Bond, England O45, gold medal. Chanre scored two goals in three minutes to put the gold medal beyond Spain's reach in the final. She contributed four goals throughout the tournament for England to finish second highest goalscorer over all.

Bill Davidson, England O65, gold medal. Bill was part of the championship winning over 65s, beating the Dutch 2-1 in a nail biting final. Bill finished joint second highest goalscorer at the tournament.

Tyler Deas, Scotland O35, fourth. An assured performance in the backline from Tyler saw Scotland compete in a tough group. They were unlucky to be on the wrong side of a 5-4 loss to Germany who had gone into the event as one of the favourites for gold.

Stuart Perry, England Spirit of Masters O65, bronze. An impressive performance by England and Stuart saw them winning all their games bar England LX which went to a narrow shoot out loss.

Jake Read, England O45 coach, silver. Having won all the group stage games Jake's team lost out in a shoot out in the final to the Netherlands. With disrupted preparation the team can take confidence though going into the next tournament.

Simon Webb, umpire, bronze medal game. A strong performance throughout the tournament saw Simon umpire two semi finals, including one involving our own Heidi, and then taking control of a bronze medal game.

Best of luck to Sally ahead of the event in Valencia where she will be captain.
