It was a Saturday, I believe, and Becky had brought Buddy the puppy along to support so the mood was high. The sky was blue, Bebbs had remembered her astros and Baz was actually in attendance 🤷🏼♀️😉
Norwich City were the opponents. Never played them before so we could only judge them by their aesthetic – ‘tall Australians’. I was feeling intimidated.
Right from the whistle we put the pressure on, managing to keep the ball in our attacking end for the majority of the first half. We had plenty of opportunities but unfortunately, they weren’t quite coming to fruition until Millie managed to get one in. Yass queen. From there, the energy rose, and Anita managed to score an exceptional (lol) upright reverse shot thanks to a well-executed pass from Emily, putting us 2-0 ahead. It was approaching half time and Bebbs had the ball; she was b-lining towards the top of the D when she was, arguably, body checked – but the whistle went in Norwich’s favour and before Bebbs had even got off the ground they had scored on the counter, making the game 2-1 at halftime.
Quick morale lifting speech from Baz “you should be winning 7-0 realistically” and we were back at it.
Honestly, what happened next was a blur; some back and forth, a few cheeky stick tackles, some rouge over-heads, a query head injury to Barks, a green card to Norwich for reasons I can’t tell you, Bebbs was on the ground again, Ciara was making some great runs down the line, Laura was dominating in the midfield, Naomi was making some epic saves in goal and then ultimately, we scored two more goals; another Emily and Anita combo, and a well fought team effort to Holly on the post.
We won 4-1, keeping our undefeated streak alive, and pocketing the 3 points. Naomi took player of the match for her mad goaling skills; the game could have looked very different without her.
