Having only had 10 players confirmed by Thursday it was looking to be touch and go for the M4 this week. But we ended up with 14 in the squad, which was great.
The Uni came at us hard in the opening 10-15 minutes, and it was a mixture of bad luck with unfinished chances for the Uni forward line and some fantastic keeping from Alfie (on his debut for the M4!) that kept us in it.
Play settled down in the middle of the first half, with some good hockey from both teams and end to end chances. The Uni were the first to score, with an open play goal (and many missed opportunities on PCs). But City were close behind with a drag flick ripped into the Uni goal from a PC by Elliott. Hugh then made it 2-1 with a great goal, slotted under the Uni keeper. Some drama late on in the first half, with a goal for the Uni disallowed by the umpires for a foot on the line.
Wise words from Pete and Rich at half time helped City go into the second half with level heads, and after a second PC goal for Elliott, the 3-1 lead was unassailable for the Uni.
A great match all round, with hard work from both teams and lots of build on into future weeks.
