W4 vs Newmarket 1

The sun blazed down over Wilby as the Ladies 4s started their game against Newmarket 1s. A strong team faced some familiar faces in Newmarket! After a few early short corners, City got lucky again. An initial shot and some flying sticks and Madi grabbed the rebound to take us 1-0 up. An early lead!

Some great play continued with Newmarket upping the intensity. City responded with some quick tackles and breaks, putting Newmarket under pressure. There were great link up passes amongst the mids and forwards with some bouncy opportunities at goal for City.

At half time it remained 1-0 and all looked set for a continued battle! Some tough challenges and strong hits came from Newmarket but it was no match for the relentless defence of the ladies 4s. Suddenly Xanthe intercepted their 16 and dribbled around defender after defender. It seemed like she was unstoppable! Turns out, she is. Slamming the ball home making it 2-0.

City strove to hold the lead. An unlucky set of passes in the D led to Newmarket scoring but fortunately they couldn’t equalise.

The 4s finished 2-1 and celebrated with excellent pasta bake.
