The first day of a new month is the best time to set the standards that will be carried forward. Unless the standards are those of forgotten astros, and a panicky phone call in the changing room to try and organise their swift delivery. Despite this setback, bebs was able to receive the shoes before the pushback and come on early in the first half, without fear of looking like ‘bambi on ice’ (not my words!). Our team today also contained a wealth of experience (sorry Becki, again not my words), a stark contrast to the (not so) spritely university team.
The first half brought a goal from Millie from one of the countless short corners (!)
The uni were able to come back with two goals early in the second half, but none of this was stopping us: Hannah Roberts stole a second goal from open play shortly afterwards to level the scores. Several short corners later, the score was still tied. Quite how the morale stayed so high under so much pressure is a mystery, although I’m sure the four legged mascots played a part! Two minutes before the end of the game, Millie put a third home, giving the uni no chance of a comeback and a hard earned win for city. The whole team put in an amazing performance to limit the uni to around four entries to our half!
Emily was voted player of the match, for her incredible interceptions and overall gameplay, but everyone today played their part, and took us to victory!
