A fantastic opportunity to see fast and skilful hockey at close quarters and support our first teams who both play in the National League.
Ball Patrol volunteers should be 13 and older. The majority are players from our junior section, but adult volunteers are welcome too.
What’s so good about being on Ball Patrol?
It’s really good fun and the players are really nice. You get to meet them all, watch some really good hockey, and support your club.
Warm up with the team, listen to the half time team talk, and photobomb the team selfie!
Is it hard to do?
No. You just need to know the basic rules of hockey and be confident enough to place the ball on the line or provide one to players on the pitch. You will need to concentrate all the time the ball is in play so you can react quickly if the ball goes out of play in your section. You sometimes have to sprint down the line to keep up with play but you only have to look after one quarter of the pitch so it’s not too bad.
This is what our Men’s & Women’s 1s coaches had to say.
We aspire to play quick free flowing hockey and play at a high intensity. The ball patrollers are a key part of this, ensuring the ball is always in play, and allowing us to play our natural game and maximise the advantage of playing at home. They really make a difference! Being attentive and enthusiastic are key attributes in making a good ball patroller. Watching our games and being part of the team talks hopefully provides some insights into what senior hockey is like at this level.
What to wear
Shin pads and mouth-guards are compulsory as you are obviously right at the edge of play. We will provide Ball Patrol bibs.
Parents
If your young person is on Ball Patrol, we ask that you get there X minutes before the game starts for a safety briefing, and so they can meet the team, warm up, and get their bibs on. We would ask that at least one of you stays throughout the match.
