New W1 Head Coach Appointed

Cambridge City Hockey Club is delighted to confirm that Alex Bibby is our new Womens

1st XI Head Coach. Alex has worked with us already so knows the squad and the club very well. He has championhip winning experience as a Head of Hockey at a range of well respected clubs and schools.

Alex had this to say: "I am honoured & privileged to lead this fantastic group of players full of talent & skill at such a prestigious club. The team have already been working hard and I have full belief we can make an immediate return to Div 1.

I'd like to take the chance to thank Poppy Martin for her work last year with the squad, and the impact she has had on me as a coach. She leaves the squad in a great position to challenge for promotion and we have a brilliant culture that we will build on.

Any new players are welcome, so if you want to win a National League title get in touch!"

Alex spent last season as Poppy’s Assistant Coach and clearly knows the squad well. He was an integral part of the fight back last season that nearly saw the team retain Division One status. We are confident he has the squad and the capability as a coach to deliver promotion this season.

The club is recruiting players across both the mens and women’s performance squads. On the womens side there are particular opportunities for goalkeepers. The womens 1st XI will be aiming to win Vitality England Hockey East Conference. Meanwhile both our 2nd and 3rd XI will be competing in East Premier League. This is the highest standard any 3rd XI has reached in England.

On Bibby’s appointment Rob Harris, one of our Club Directors had this to say: “The club is delighted to have Alex on board as the W1 coach, having been assistant coach last season he knows the squad well already and can hit the ground running for the start of the new season. Our aim as a club is to support him in getting the women promoted back into Div 1."

Vicki Franks, 1st XI Captain and Club President: “Having seen Bibby's hard work last year with the squad I am excited to see the developments he will bring in stepping up to the Head Coach role this year. He already has the team working hard towards what I am sure will be a fantastic season under his leadership.”
