W1 vs Wimbledon W2

Goal scorer: Amie H

City travelled to sunny Wimbledon with the hope of points in sight. The game started frantically with some great passing between Stan, Sian, Kat and Griffy. City found pockets in the midfield but Wimbledons defence stopped the ball from getting to Hunty up front, who was itching for a goal.

City controlled the attacking field with some great passes down the line, unfortunately not quite enough to get on the score board. After some great passing hockey, Em received the ball at the top of the circle but it was hit wide of the left post.

After half time, Wimbledon came back very determined. Maybe too determined, leading to numerous cards being given. City tried to use this to their advantage, but unfortunately Wimbledon found the back of the net. This didn’t stop City as some great play going forward (and great unintentional defending from Em) lead to Hunty scoring an equaliser from a short corner.

In the final quarter, the kiddies showed off their strengths. Evie showed the ‘big girls’ what she is made of with some excellent attacking play while Jess had plenty of runs up the pitch panicking the Wimbledon defence. City were close to scoring a second with a couple of minutes to go but Wimbledon’s defence kicked the ball away from goal. The game finished 1-1 giving City their first point of the season.

POTM: Jess T and Evie Y
