With Sunday training and most junior fixtures cancelled due to frozen pitches, this was the perfect weekend to head indoors 🧊🥶
The girls made a strong start with an 8-0 opening win against a hard working Chelmsford side. Match 2 was tighter against a tough and organised Old Loughtonians. The girls played some great hockey in the first half, with Jess's power in the middle causing all sorts of mayhem, and raced out to a 4-0 HT lead. Old Loughts hit back, scoring first in the second half, before May made it 5-1. Loughts won a final corner just as the hooter blew but couldn't convert what turned into a series of seven consecutive corners. There was some heroic defending, the ball magnetically attracted to Jess' foot (much to the crowd's amusement) before the ball found a City stick and was finally cleared.
The final match was the decider against a similarly unbeaten Ipswich. City started well, but then went behind against the run of play following an Ipswich break. City created lots of chances but couldn't find the net until Charlotte popped up to equalise just before the half time hooter. 1-1. After the break City continued to dominate, the Ipswich keeper making some fabulous saves as City peppered the Ipswich goal, before Millie finally found the back of the net to make it 2-1, May making it safe in the final few minutes with a lovely finish.
Delighted to be East Area Champions and have the opportunity to represent the East at the National Super6s in January. Thank you to Queenswood School for the venue, East umpires, and the East for organising.
